The survey of the membership that was used to design this website clearly indicated that communication among members was one of the most desired functions. The result is this set of forums. Members can address any subject they please, ask for answers to questions, start an ongoing discussion, or just say "hello" to other members. Members may also send private messages to other members and chat in real time with members in the chat room. Non-members may view the forums and all posts but cannot post messages.
A user manual for the Forums is available here.
When the page first comes up, the details of the member who has logged in will be displayed in a "Member Update" form. Note that this form will be displayed ONLY to the member whose information appears in the form. The member may update any of the information in the form, such as when their address changes. The member may also decide what information to display to other members by using the check boxes on the left side of the form.
A full list of members is shown in the left column. When any of the names in this list is clicked, the information about that member is displayed in the right side. By default, the selected member's name and address is displayed. Members may change this by using the Member Update form as noted above. Note that this page is in the members-only part of the website so NO MEMBER INFORMATION IS EVER DISPLAYED TO THE PUBLIC.
This page contains the current Newsletter as well as the complete archive of The Antarctican Society Newsletters and other documents dating to 1959. The archive is over 1,800 pages chocked full of historical features, news, personal stories and more. All documents are in PDF format. Members may save or print out any or all of the newsletters.
Over the past fifty years, many media products have focused on Antarctica and many of them have been reviewed in the Antarctican Society Newsletter. Now you can pick and choose whatever interests you, perhaps as guidance for the next book or movie to to investigate, or as the next item to put on your personal Antarctic "wish list." There will be an ample selection to choose from!
Some of the most significant Antarcticans in the relatively young human history of The Seventh Continent have been the subject of biographical sketches in our Newsletter. Many have been members of the Society, including Larry Gould, Norman Vaughn, Paul Siple, and a number of others. This page will be populated in the near future.
Antarcticans of note have rated obituaries in the Antarctican Society newsletter over the years. You can read any or all of these here. Now you can share in these accounts of lives that are significant in the human history of Antarctica.
